August 22

Uruguay 88 vs. Panama 84 (Overtime) -- USA Basketball reports: Jaime Lloreda connected on seven-of-10 field goals and tallied 15 first-half points, helping to build a 45-34 lead for his club by the intermission. The key shot of the half, however, was a three-pointer by Leandro Garcia of Uruguay as the first-half buzzer sounded. Building on that momentum, Uruguay outscored Panama 24-to-11 in the third quarter to not only get back in the game, but to take a 58-56 lead heading into the final stanza... Uruguay's Esteban Batista notched a game high 26 points, while Lloreda paced Panama with 21.

Mexico 100 vs. Puerto Rico 89 -- USA Basketball reports: Mexico's hot shooting continued throughout the first half (54 percent from the field), and behind 22 points from Victor Mariscal, they opened up a 57-45 lead by the break. Puerto Rico rallied in the third quarter and even took a lead during the fourth, but Mexico would not be denied... Llamas would finish with 18 points while Mariscal logged a game high 30 as Mexico triumphed 100-89.

Brazil 75 vs. Canada 67 -- USA Basketball reports: Facing a 25-12 deficit after one period of play, Canada would make some noise. Juan Mendez's hot hand in the second stanza (five-of-seven from the field), helped pull the Canadians to within three points at the half, 36-33. The second half would once again belong to Leandro Barbosa, who finished with a game high 30 points. Adding 12 points and nine rebounds was forward Tiago Splitter, who was a factor inside all night. Samuel Dalembert tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Canadians while Mendez finished with 18 points in a losing effort.

USA 112 vs. Venezuela 69 -- USA Basketball reports: The USA employed a balanced attack, with seven players scoring in double digits. Carmelo Anthony and Michael Redd led the United States with 17 apiece. The USA also dominated inside, outscoring the Venezuelans 58-14 in the paint. Defensively, Dwight Howard led the USA with three blocks while Kobe Bryant and LeBron James teamed for 6 steals... Greivis Vasquez led Venezuela with 12 points.

August 23

Puerto Rico 108 vs. Panama 67 -- USA Basketball reports: Back-to-back three-pointers from Elias Ayuso and Ricardo Sanchez to start the game helped fuel Puerto Rico’s 12-0 opening run – a run from which Panama never recovered. Puerto Rico had five players score in double figures as they rolled to a 108-67 victory.

Canada 80 vs. Venezuela 73 -- USA Basketball reports: In a back-and-forth affair in which the lead never crept above seven points, it was Samuel Dalembert’s conversion of a layup in traffic and the free throw to boot with 1:32 remaining that put Canada up to stay, as they held off Venezuela 80-73. The 6’11’’ Dalembert tallied a team-best 18 points and added eight rebounds and five blocks for Canada, which now stands at 1-1 in tournament play.

Argentina 90 vs. Uruguay 69 -- USA Basketball reports: Day two action at Thomas & Mack Center for the FIBA Americas Championship 2007 kicked off as Uruguay, fresh off its’ opening day overtime victory over Panama (88-84), took the floor against Argentina. The well-rested Argentines got on the board first when Luis Scola followed a Carlos Delfino miss with a tip-in, giving Argentina a 2-0 lead. Slowly but surely, Scola and co. padded their lead, eventually emerging with a 90-69 victory... Scola, who finished with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals, was the most impressive performer.

USA 123 vs. Virgin Islands 59 -- USA Basketball reports: LeBron James’ thunderous baseline dunk with just over seven minutes remaining in the first quarter might have been the signature play of the period, but it was the quick 15 points Michael Redd racked up that helped the USA build an early lead which the U.S. Virgin Islands would never challenge. The USA coasted for the second consecutive night, this time by a final score of 123-59. The 42-point outburst by the USA in the opening stanza was fueled by Redd’s fluid stroke, as the sharpshooting guard hit three-of-four three-pointers in the period before ultimately finishing with a game high 22 points. Carmelo Anthony also tallied 22 for the winners.

August 24

Panama 95 vs. Mexico 90 -- USA Basketball reports: The back-and-forth affair wasn’t decided until the final minute, when missed three-pointers and made free throws would prove to be the difference... J.R. Pinnock’s game-high 30 points led the victors, who also got strong contributions from Jamie Lloreda (19 points) and Enrique Garcia (13 rebounds). Roberto Beck’s 20 points were tops for Mexico, which fell to 1-1 in tournament play.

Canada 93 vs. Virgin Islands 83 -- USA Basketball reports: The Canadians would get their legs, however, and behind Juan Mendez's 22 points, Leo Rautins' squad held off the Virgin Islands 93-83... Jason Edwin connected on six-of-eight from distance and as a team, the Virgin Islands shot 13-of-24 from beyond the arc (54 percent)... Jason Edwin's 26 points led the Virgin Islands, which fell to 0-2. Alphonso Sheppard added 23 for the Virgin Islands in defeat.

Argentina 87 vs. Puerto Rico 75 -- USA Basketball reports: Luis Scola was impressive once again, tallying 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Argentines, who also got 15 points from Carlos Delfino. Elias Ayuso led Puerto Rico with 21 points while Carlos Arroyo chipped in with 20. The contest was closer than the final margin of victory would indicate, as Puerto Rico actually led by as many as 14 points in the first half.

Brazil 101 vs. Venezuela 75 -- USA Basketball reports: Marcelo Machado got Brazil on the right track by scoring 11 of his team high 20 points in the first quarter while going 3-of-4 from three point range... After a slow first half where he was held to just three points, the Phoenix Suns' Leandro Barbosa turned it on and chipped in 12 second half points to help seal the victory for Brazil. Hector Romero led Venezuela with 21 points which drops to (0-3) in the tournament.

August 25

USA 113 vs. Canada 63 -- USA Basketball reports: The United States remained perfect at the FIBA Americas 2007 Championship, coasting to a 113-63 victory over Canada on Saturday afternoon. Winning its first three contests by an average of 52 points, the United States has yet to be challenged and now owns a 3-0 mark in tournament play. Carmelo Anthony's 12 first quarter points on five-of-five shooting from the field helped the USA get off to a hot start, but Canada's 10-2 run to close the period made it a 28-21 score... Seven (Team USA) players would score in double figures and crisp passing always seemed to get the ball into the hands of an open shooter... Anthony finished with a game-high 25 points. Pacing Canada with 17 markers was Olu Famutimi.

Brazil 93 vs. Virgin Islands 89 -- USA Basketball reports: Brazil survived a scare from the U.S. Virgin Islands in the second game of the day at Thomas & Mack Center, trailing by as many as 12 points before rallying late in the third quarter to take control of the game... Leandro Barboa scored 20 of his game-high 36 points in the second half, increasing his average to 27.0 points in the tournament.

Uruguay 82 vs. Puerto Rico 79 -- USA Basketball reports: Esteban Batista's 34 points and 15 rebounds led Uruguay past Puerto Rico 82-79 on Saturday night at Thomas & Mack Center... Puerto Rico, which led by as many as 19 points earlier in the contest, held a 61-53 advantage heading to the fourth quarter... Jose Barea, who returned tonight from a two-game suspension, led Puerto Rico with 18 points.

Argentina 104 vs. Mexico 83 -- USA Basketball reports: Tied at 23 apiece after one quarter of play, Argentina began to distance itself in the second, thanks to a hot-shooting Paolo Quinteros... Carlos Delfino led Argentina with 20 points while Quinteros added 18. Roberto Beck tallied 24 points for Mexico in defeat.

August 26

Venezuela 100 vs. Virgin Islands 90 -- USA Basketball reports: Hector Romero's 29 points and 10 rebounds helped Venezuela advance by the count of 100-90... Jason Edwin did everything he could to keep his team in the game, scoring 32 points in a losing effort for the Virgin Islands, who were without the services of guard Carl Krauser due to extreme dehydration.

Uruguay 91 vs. Mexico 82 -- USA Basketball reports: Riding the hot hand of Nicolas Mazzarino, who connected on 8-of-13 three-point field goals and scored a game-high 36 points, Uruguay upended Mexico 91-82 on Sunday afternoon at Thomas & Mack Center as each team concluded its' preliminary round play... Esteban Batista would tally 11 points and five rebounds in the fourth quarter, finishing the game with 25 points and 15 rebounds and helping Uruguay to hold off Mexico, which struggled mightily from the charity stripe down the stretch.

USA 113 vs. Brazil 76 -- USA Basketball reports: The USA opened the game on an 8-0 run and would lead by as many as 49 on a night when Brazil's top scorer, Leandro Barbosa, was limited to four points... The trio of Carmelo Anthony (21 points), James (21 points) and Bryant (20 points) did the bulk of the damage offensively for the United States on an evening in which the size of the lead didn't require any of them to play so much as a minute in the final quarter... Tayshaun Prince left the game early in the first half for the USA due to an ankle injury.

Argentina 109 vs. Panama 92 (Overtime) -- USA Basketball reports: Trailing by as many as 14 points early in the game, Panama fought back to take a 63-59 lead heading to the fourth quarter... It was all Argentina in the extra session, as Panama was outscored by 17 points in the five minute overtime. Paolo Quinteros would score seven points in the final session and Argentina escaped with a 109-92 victory. Gary Forbes scored a game-high 29 points for Panama in defeat while Quinteros' 22 points led Argentina.

Canada 95 vs. Uruguay 88 -- USA Basketball reports: Powered by Jesse Young's game high 22 points, Canada opened quarterfinal action of the FIBA Americas Championship 2007 with a 95-88 victory over Uruguay on Monday afternoon at Thomas & Mack Center... Nicolas Mazzarino and Leandro Garcia Morales each scored 17 points and Esteban Batista scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds for Uruguay in defeat.

Argentina 98 vs. Venezuela 63 -- USA Basketball reports: Showing no signs of fatigue after playing an overtime tilt with Panama last night, the Argentines rode the game-high 21 points of Roman Gonzalez to victory. Carlos Delfino added 19 for the winners... Carlos Cedeno's 15 points paced the Venezuelans.

Puerto Rico 97 vs. Brazil 75 -- USA Basketball reports: Behind 24 points from Elias Ayuso, the Puerto Ricans upended Brazil by the final of 97-75. Leandro Barbosa rebounded from his poor performance against the United States the last time out, scoring a game-high 34 points for Brazil.

USA 127 vs. Mexico 100 -- USA Basketball reports: The USA raced out to a 45-23 lead after one quarter, but only seemed to be crisp in spurts over the next three in the eventual 127-100 victory... The USA was outscored 28-20 in the period and saw its' lead shrink to 14 points by halftime (65-51)... Carmelo Anthony paced the United States with a game-high 28 point effort on 10-of-17 shooting from the field. Mexico's Romel Beck, a former UNLV Runnin' Rebel, led Mexico with 20 points.

August 28

Venezuela 88 vs. Uruguay 79 -- USA Basketball reports: Led by Hector Romero’s game-high 35 points, the Venezuelans were impressive, leading by as many as 22 points earlier in the contest before finishing off Uruguay, 88-79... Manuel Barrios shot five-of-six from long distance en route to scoring 19 for the Venezuelans. Esteban Batista continued his strong play for Uruguay, posting a double-double with 21 points and 20 rebounds in the loss.

Argentina 85 vs. Canada 70 -- USA Basketball reports: The Argentines led the entire way and Canada's cold shooting to start (25 percent from the field in the first half) never allowed them to truly get into the game... Luis Scola scored a game-high 23 points for Argentina, while teammate Roman Gonzalez added an 11-point, 11-rebound effort in the victory. Samuel Dalembert grabbed 16 rebounds and added nine points for Canada in the loss.

Brazil 104 vs. Mexico 90 -- USA Basketball reports: Following 21 points from Leandro Barbosa, the Brazilians were always in front, keeping a consistent attack that pulverized the Mexican defenses... Mexico, after becoming the only team to reach 100 points against the USA last night, couldn’t contain Barbosa’s penetrations and the incisive attack in the paint of Nene, who finished the game with 17 points and 7 rebounds... Romel Beck scored 29 points in losing effort.

USA 117 vs. Puerto Rico 78 -- USA Basketball reports: Kobe Bryant's 11 first quarter points gave the USA a 24-15 lead after the opening period in the final game of the day at Thomas & Mack Center. A 10-0 run early in the second quarter extended the Americans' lead to 39-17... LeBron James tallied a game-high 21 points while Carmelo Anthony added 17 and Michael Redd 15 for the Americans. Elias Ayuso led Puerto Rico with 13 points, but connected on just two-of-seven from the field on a night when the USA held Puerto Rico to 36 percent shooting.

Canada 97 vs. Mexico 80 -- USA Basketball reports: Behind 17 points and five three-pointers from Jermaine Anderson, Canada rebounded from yesterday's loss to Argentina and defeated Mexico 97-80 on Wednesday in second round action of the FIBA Americas Championship... Omar Quintero scored a game-high 20 points in a losing effort for Mexico.

Puerto Rico 92 vs. Venezuela 63 -- USA Basketball reports: Puerto Rico led 20-16 after one quarter and stretched its' lead to 47-35 by halftime behind Elias Ayuso's 16 first half points... Hector Romero led Venezuela with 11 points, but connected on only 3-of-13 field goals. Ayuso finished with a game-high 25 points.

Argentina 86 vs. Brazil 79 -- USA Basketball reports: After trailing by as many as 17 points, Argentina rallied to stun Brazil in overtime by the final of 86-79... Luis Scola had seven points and seven rebounds through three quarters, but would finish with a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds, doing most of his damage once Splitter had fouled out. Paolo Quinteros added 19 points and Carlos Delfino 17 for the winners.

USA 118 vs. Uruguay 79 -- USA Basketball reports: LeBron James scored a game-high 26 points on 11-of-11 shooting from the field, which included four three-pointers as the USA rolled to a 118-79 victory over Uruguay. Even more impressive, James did all of his damage in the first half... Esteban Batista's 20 points led Uruguay.

August 30

Mexico 101 vs. Venezuela 91 -- USA Basketball reports: Adam Parada de los Reyes and Victor Marsical combined for 40 points, as Mexico outworked Venezuela 48-32 in the paint. Hector Romero scored 23 points in a losing effort for Venezuela.

Brazil 96 vs. Uruguay 62 -- USA Basketball reports: Behind 32 points from Leandro Barbosa, Brazil knocked off Uruguay by the count of 96-62 in each team’s Second Round Finale at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship... Esteban Batista continued his impressive play, posting 17 points and 10 rebounds in a losing effort for Uruguay.

Puerto Rico 72 vs. Canada 66 -- USA Basketball reports: Carlos Arroyo's game-high 22 points, including four three-pointers carried surging Puerto Rico to a 72-66 victory over Canada in each team's Second Round Finale at the FIBA Americas Championships 2007... David Thomas posted 18 points and Samuel Dalembert collected 18 rebounds in a losing effort for Canada.

United States 91 vs. Argentina 76 -- USA Basketball reports: The U.S. raced out to a 28-13 lead after the first quarter, relying on the hot hand of Kobe Bryant, who netted 15 of the team's points in the opening stanza. Bryant, who led all scorers with 27 points, connected on 10-of-15 shots from the field in just under 23 minutes of play... Luis Scola paced the Argentines with 20 points and five rebounds while Diego Logrippo added 11 points.

September 1

Argentina 91 vs Brazil 80 -- USA Basketball reports: Brazil dominated early on, shooting 60 percent (18 of 30) and held a 43-35 lead at the half. Agrentina came out of the locker room at the half with a sense of urgency and quickly went on the offensive, outscoring Brazil 30-13 in the third quarter. Luis Scola led all scorers with 27 points on 10 of 14 shooting from the field. Leandro Barbosa and Alex Ribeiro led Brazil with 16 points apiece.

United States 135 vs Puerto Rico 91 -- USA Basketball reports: Carmelo Anthony opened the third quarter on fire, shooting for a mesmerizing 4-4 from the three-point line, all this in the first three minutes of play. While USA displayed great passing and confidence, Puerto Rico's offense became erratic, falling behind on the score by 31 with 2:30 remaining. The quarter finished 100 - 70, USA in front... For USA, Anthony finished the game with 27 points (shooting for 6-7 from the three-point line and 5-6 from the free throw line). Redd scored 23 (15 of them came in the fourth quarter only). Carlos Arroyo finished the game with 21 points and 5 assists, while Ayuso scored 22 points in the loss.

BRONZE MEDAL GAME: Puerto Rico 111 vs. Brazil 107 -- USA Basketball reports: Hot-shooting guards Elias Ayuso and Carlos Arroyo (39 points, 8-of-12 three-pointers) combined for 69 points to spark Puerto Rico to a thrilling 111-107 victory over short-handed Brazil in the bronze medal game of the FIBA Americas Championship on Sunday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas... Brazil's Marcelo Magalhaes hit six of Brazil's 13 triples and finished with a team-high 21 points... For Puerto Rico Arroyo added a game-high 10 assists while Luis Reyes chipped in 15 points and 15 rebounds. Tiago Splitter tallied 19 points and 13 rebounds for Brazil.

GOLD MEDAL GAME: United States 118 vs. Argentina 81 -- USA Basketball reports: LeBron James scored a game-high 31 points including eight three-pointers as the U.S. continued its torrid shooting in the tournament by making 20-of-41 triples to Argentina's 9-of-27... Dwight Howard's 20 points and four blocked shots combined with Carmelo Anthony's 16 points and game-high eight rebounds helped the U.S. overpower Argentina 40-24 in the paint. Luis Scola, named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, led the Argentinean squad with 23 points, while teammate Leonardo Gutierrez chipped in 11 points.
