The Toronto Raptors announced Thursday they have acquired forward Kris Humphries and centre Robert Whaley from the Utah Jazz in exchange for centre Rafael Araujo.

“We wish Rafael well and feel this will be a positive move for both teams,” said Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo.

Humphries, 6-foot-9, 235 pounds, was a first-round selection (14th overall) by the Jazz in 2004. The former University of Minnesota product was an early entry candidate after one season with the Gophers. He was the first freshman to lead the Big Ten in both scoring (21.7) and rebounding (10.1), and was named 2004 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and All-Big Ten First Team by the media and coaches.

Humphries has averaged 3.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 11.6 minutes in 129 career games with Utah. He saw action in 62 games this past season, averaging 3.0 points and 2.5 rebounds. He had a high of 16 points and 10 rebounds at Phoenix on November 18 for his second career double-double.

Humphries averaged 4.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 13.0 minutes in his rookie campaign. He scored a career-high 17 points March 26, 2005 versus Milwaukee and had a career-best 12 rebounds April 20, 2005 at Golden State.

Whaley, 6-foot-10, 260 pounds, was a second-round selection (51st overall) of Utah’s in 2005. He attended Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio and as a senior led the team to the NAIA Division II National Championship. He appeared in 23 games last season for the Jazz, where he averaged 2.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 9.2 minutes.

Araujo averaged 2.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 12.0 minutes in 111 career games with Toronto. He was drafted in the first-round (eighth overall) by the Raptors in 2004.

InsideHoops.com Editor Says: Wow, Toronto gave up on Araujo already! I thought they'd keep him around for at least part of next season before sending him away. Though, he's been consistently lousy and hasn't even shown flashes. I think the trade is pretty good for both teams. Kris Humprhies is already decent and useful. He's better than Araujo so far. I haven't seen much from Robert Whaley yet. Pretty even trade. But clearly a disappointment for Toronto that they felt ready to toss Araujo away already.
