Following a successful series of Bahamas themed nights at Orlando Magic home games during the 2006-07 NBA season, the Orlando Magic and the Islands of the Bahamas have teamed up for “Magic in Paradise,” which will bring Orlando Magic guard Keyon Dooling to the area to host The Bahamas Orlando Magic Basketball Camp on July 21, 2007. The camp will target kids between the ages 6-17 and will allow them to receive one-on-one instructions in a number of game techniques. To ensure that some of the most promising young Bahamian basketball talents get the opportunity to benefit from the exposure the camp will provide, the Orlando Magic has joined forces with the Bahamas Basketball Federation to draft participants for the Magic Camp.
“We see this as a wonderful opportunity to expose some of our top young basketball talent to the possibilities that could one day be available to them,” Minister of Tourism and Aviation in The Islands of The Bahamas Neko Grants said. “Our little country has produced a number of top basketball players who have gone on to achieve international fame and we see this as another avenue to continue to nurture that trend.”
The camp will be held at the newly constructed Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium located in the heart of the Sporting District in Nassau, just moments away from the resort areas of Paradise Island and the Cable Beach strip. “Magic in Paradise” organizers are also opening the camp up to young aspiring professional basketball players living in Central and South Florida.
Declared one of the hottest destinations in the world by Conde Nast Traveler, the Islands of the Bahamas are frequently becoming the getaway destination for Florida residents. With Island experiences that range from the non-stop excitement and entertainment of Nassau/Paradise Island to the laid-back lifestyle of the Out Islands, The Islands of the Bahamas offers a variety of flavors for discerning travelers draped in one colorful Bahamian backdrop.
