Houston Rockets forward Shane Battier and guard Rafer Alston each underwent successful surgical procedures by Rockets Team Physician Tom Clanton on Friday at Memorial Hermann--Texas Medical Center. Battier underwent arthroscopic surgery in order to remove bone spurs in his left ankle. Alston’s surgery involved repairing ligament and tendon damage in his right ankle.
“Both procedures went well,” said Dr. Clanton. “Shane just needed to have a few bone spurs removed from around his left ankle joint. Rafer’s procedure involved the repairing of some ligaments and tendons in his right ankle. I expect both players to be ready and available to participate in training camp activities.”
Battier (6-8, 220, Duke) posted season averages of 9.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.13 blocks while playing in 80 regular season games (78 starts) this past season. He also started each of Houston’s six playoff games against the Utah Jazz.
Alston (6-2, 175, Fresno State) averaged 13.1 points and 5.3 assists during his 74 games (all starts) this past season. He missed the first two games of the playoff series against the Jazz due to a strained right hamstring before returning to the lineup for Games #3-6 and eventually sustaining the right ankle injury in the second quarter of Game 6.
