The Portland Trail Blazers have signed guard Steve Blake to a three-year contract, it was announced Friday by Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The move brings Blake, 27, back to the team with which he spent the 2005-06 season. Blake posted averages of 8.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists, while shooting 41 percent from 3-point range in 68 games (57 starts) with the Trail Blazers in 2005-06.
“Steve embodies the kind of culture we’re building here in Portland,” said Pritchard. “He’s an intelligent, hard-working, team player with a tremendous grasp as to what it takes to play the point guard position.”
Blake averaged 6.4 points and 5.0 assists per game in the 2006-07 season split between Milwaukee and Denver, but flourished with the Nuggets, where he put up 8.3 points and 6.6 assists per game in the final 49 games.
A University of Maryland product, Blake is entering his fifth NBA season with career averages of 6.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 22.5 minutes with the Wizards, Trail Blazers, Bucks and Nuggets.
