Colorado 14ers, Dakota Wizards, Idaho Stampede and Sioux Falls Skyforce
leaving CBA for NBA Development League
The Continental Basketball Association announced
today that four teams have withdrawn from the league to join the NBA
Development League. The expansion Colorado 14ers, Dakota Wizards, Idaho
Stampede, and Sioux Falls Skyforce will not be competing in the CBA for the
2006-07 season.
"The CBA extends its best wishes to the departing clubs and thanks them for
their contributions to the league," said CBA Commissioner Gary Hunter. "The
CBA remains a viable option for minor league franchises, players who are
seeking to develop and advance to the next level, and coaches who are
seeking to enrich their careers.
"The passion and commitment that has been expressed by our current teams
gives us great optimism that the CBA will continue its unique and colorful
60-year reign as the oldest professional basketball league in the world for
years to come."
The CBA recently completed its 60th anniversary season on March 27 with the
Yakama Sun Kings defeating the Gary Steelheads in a best-of-three-game
series. That series featured the CBA's 2006 Player of the Year, Anthony
Goldwire (Sun Kings), and the CBA's 2006 Coach of the Year, Jaren Jackson
(Steelheads).
