The Los Angeles Lakers have signed fourth-year forward Brian Cook to a multi-year contract extension, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

Cook, 25, started 46-of-81 games in 2005-06 while averaging career-highs in every major statistical category including points (7.9), field goal percentage (.511) and three-point field goal percentage (.429). Twice leading the team in scoring last season, in back-to-back games against the Mavericks and Rockets in February, Cook scored a career-high 28 points on 12-of-16 shooting 2/7 @ Dallas while following that up with 27 points and a season-high 10 rebounds 2/8 @ Houston.

Selected with the 24th pick in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft after being named the unanimous Big Ten Player of the Year his senior season at Illinois, Cook and fellow 2003 Draft alumnus Luke Walton are the second longest tenured Lakers behind only Kobe Bryant.

For his career, the 6’9” forward is averaging 6.7 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting .469 from the field and .396 from three-point range.
