David Lee Mini-Interview
By InsideHoops.com | Nov. 28, 2005
New York Knicks rookie David Lee has made a great impression on everyone with intelligent, effective play per minute he's on the floor. The 6-9, 245-pound forward went to the University of Florida, and so far with the Knicks he's averaging 3.7 points and 5.1 rebounds in 13.1 minutes per game. As of today, he's #2 in the entire league in rebounds per 48 minutes. InsideHoops.com editor Jeff Lenchiner recently met with Lee for a quick interview.
InsideHoops.com: Back when you won the high school slam dunk contest, how big were you back then?
David Lee: Shoot... 210lbs. That was about 30 or 40 pounds ago.
InsideHoops.com: You were a shooting guard, small forward back then.
David Lee: Correct, correct. I'm just actually getting back to playing some small forward now, on this level, because in college I was playing the four and the five. So there's a difference, as far as getting used to it now.
InsideHoops.com: In college, what were the highs and lows for you, over the course of your years there?
David Lee: Well we had some disappointing times in the NCAA tournament there but as far as my senior season, winning that SEC tournament title was wonderful. And beating Kentucky on my senior night was a great night too.
InsideHoops.com: And the Knicks right now, the rotation is all over the place. Talk about your season so far.
David Lee: Yeah, coach is still try to figure things out, we've been going with different lineups. It's been some highs and lows, but the team is getting better and I'm continuing to get better each day, and that's the important thing.
InsideHoops.com: How'd you get such a grasp of the fundamentals?
David Lee: That's just growing up and playing a lot in the summer and playing high school ball and things like that. That's always been something that's been important to me.
