On a New York Knicks team that doesn't dazzle you with speed or quickness, Frank Williams is a breath of fresh air. While the kid isn't as steady as Charlie Ward when it comes to shooting, Williams is one of the few Knicks who can penetrate, draw defensive attention and cause havok on the floor. He's a future bright spot for the squad, and could wind up the team's starting point guard in the near future. InsideHoops.com caught up with Frank in Madison Square Garden after a recent Knicks game for an exclusive interview.

InsideHoops.com: You bring quickness to the Knicks, penetration, movement, is that what you're going out of your way to bring to the team more than anything?

Frank Williams: Yeah, I think that's the difference between my game and the other guards. I like penetrating a lot, and those guys, they've been playing up here for so long, and they know how to actually run a team, while I'm actually out there learning, and trying to play to my strengths and weaknesses.

InsideHoops.com: What kind of things did you work on this summer? What'd you do on the court as well as off of it?

Frank Williams: Off the court, I watched a lot of tapes, of last year's games. I watched how Charlie would go out there and play, and then I watched a couple of games where I got in, and tried to see the difference. On the court, I tried to make adjustments, getting past my man, finding open guys, trying to knock down the open jumper. Just trying to get everybody involved, and also trying to get defensive intensity out there.

InsideHoops.com: Is it more a case right now of you trying to fit in to what the Knicks already do, or is it more you trying to show what you can do and that the team should wrap itself a bit around what you bring?

Frank Williams: I think it's a little bit of both. I'm trying to fit in as well as I can, but at the same time I want to continue to play the style that I like to play. That's kind of like an up-tempo type. Because I know these guys here, they can put the ball in the basket. If we get open shots for them, I'm pretty sure they can get it done.

InsideHoops.com: That fast break where you went behind the back to Shandon (Anderson) for the reverse layup finish, that was one of the most fun Knicks plays of the season. Fans love to see that kind of stuff. They want more of that in this building.

Frank Williams: Yeah, you can do it. But at the same time, it really, really doesn't mean that much if you don't win the game. I always try to keep the crowd involved, make sure they keep us going, just try to get them a little excitement out there, rather than just sitting watching the game.

InsideHoops.com: There's talk that you'll eventually start at the point. Is that on your mind at all?

Frank Williams: Not at all. Not at all. I'm just out there doing whatever the coach wants me to do. If it's coming off the bench, giving our key guys a breather, then that's what I need to do. Just trying to get out there and make sure I do whatever it is for our team to win.
