Daniel Gibson interview
By Randy Zellea | March 5, 2009
When the Cleveland Cavaliers traded for point guard Mo Williams, some wondered how this would affect the developing of young scorer Daniel Gibson. But despite his low shooting percentage of 37.8%, Gibson has been a solid contributor off the bench and helped make the team better.
Randy Zellea of InsideHoops.com spoke to Gibson around a week ago in New York's Madison Square Garden to discuss the addition of Williams, his favorite moments as a pro, and what he does in his spare time off the court.
InsideHoops.com: How do you look at your team’s performance through the first half of the season?
Gibson: Early in the season we were getting used to playing with each other, which explained started why we started off 1-2. Since then, we gained confidence and learned how to play at such a high level as a team. We feel that we cannot be beat by anyone in the league.
InsideHoops.com: How has the addition of Mo Williams impact your game?
Gibson: Well my minutes have pretty much stayed the same. With the addition of Mo, we just make the proper adjustments. While I’m on the floor with Mo, I have started to play off the ball, and since we have a lot of guys who can play the point, it lets me contribute in other ways. That is a big adjustment for me, but I just want to go out and win so I will do whatever it takes.
InsideHoops.com: What is your favorite arena to play in around the league?
Gibson: Besides the Q (Quicken Loans Arena)? I love playing at the Q. I would probably say Madison Square garden and the Staples Center in LA.
InsideHoops.com: So what has been your career highlights so far?
Gibson: I would say game six against the Detroit Pistons in the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals. I probably had the best game of my career and it helped us get to the NBA finals while I was rookie.
InsideHoops.com: What do you do with your Spare time?
Gibson: I like go bowling. I box. I love boxing. Bowling and boxing. That’s fun during the offseason.
InsideHoops.com: I hear you like to play video games?
Gibson: I am a big time video game guy. Right now my cousin and I are playing Gears of War, Call of Duty, and other shooting games on XBOX 360. I have not played a playstation since the 360 came out.
