Timberwolves trade Gerald Green to Rockets for Kirk Snyder, draft pickThe Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has acquired 6-6 guard Kirk Snyder, a 2010 second-round draft pick and cash considerations from the Houston Rockets in exchange for guard Gerald Green.

Snyder is in his fourth NBA season and holds career averages of 6.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in 184 career appearances. A University of Nevada alum and the 2004 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Snyder was selected by the Utah Jazz in the first round (16th overall pick) of the 2004 NBA Draft and has spent time with Utah, New Orleans and Houston during his career. Snyder has appeared in nine games for the Rockets this season, averaging 3.8 points and 1.3 rebounds in 9.0 minutes per game.

Green (6-8, 200, Gulf Shores Academy) has averaged 8.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 142 games (29 starts) with Boston and Minnesota. He also averaged 11.9 points and 4.9 boards per game for Fayetteville and Florida in the D-League in 2005-06. In 29 games this season with the Timberwolves, Green has averaged 5.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 12.3 minutes per game. He notched season highs of 18 points and eight rebounds vs. Golden State (12/19/07), as well as handing out a season-best five assists vs. Indiana (12/21/07).

The 18th overall selection by the Celtics in the 2005 NBA Draft, Green was acquired by Minnesota last summer as part of the deal that sent Kevin Garnett to Boston. Green, who won the 2007 Sprite NBA Slam Dunk contest at All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas, finished as runner-up to Dwight Howard in the 2008 Sprite NBA Slam Dunk contest during NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans. Named a 2004 McDonald’s All-American, Green also captured the McDonald’s Slam Dunk Contest during his high school career.

A two-time All-State selection at Gulf Shores Academy, Green averaged 33.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists his senior season. He also averaged 28.8 points, 13.0 rebounds and 6.0 blocks per game in leading Gulf Shores to a 39-2 record his junior year.
