The Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Lynn Greer to a multi-year contract, General Manager Larry Harris announced today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed in accordance with club policy.
“Signing Lynn gives us added depth at the guard positions,” said Harris. “He has been one of the top guards in European basketball over the past few years and has shown that he knows the value of both hard work and teamwork.”
Undrafted out of Temple University, Greer, 26, has spent the past four seasons in Europe. He averaged 22.6 points, 3.3 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 40 games for Carpisa Napoli of the Italian League last season. He shot 48.3 percent from three-point range and 91.3 percent from the free throw line for the season, and averaged 21.3 points during Carpisa’s three-game sweep at the mid-season Coppa Italia tournament in Flori.
In 2004-05, Greer played with Dynamo Moscow in the Russian A Superleague, averaging 9.7 points and 2.2 assists over 41 games. He earned Polish League All-Star honors and All-Europe Honorable Mention honors during the 2003-04 season after averaging 25.0 points and 5.5 assists in 14 games for Idea-Slask Wroclaw of the Polish League. The 6-1, 175-pound guard also earned Finals MVP honors that season after helping lead his club to the Polish Cup Title. Greer played for Near East (Greece) for 14 games during the 2002-03 season before leaving the team in January. He then signed with the Greenville Groove of the NBA’s Development League and averaged 9.3 points and 2.1 assists in 13 games.
A native of Philadelphia, Greer enjoyed a four-year collegiate career at Temple. He earned All-Atlantic 10 First Team honors during his junior and senior seasons and was an honorable mention All-American during his senior year. He ranks second all-time in points scored at Temple (2,099) and remains the Owls’ all-time leader in three-pointers made (305).
Greer appeared in training camp with the Bucks during the 2003-04 preseason.
