Memphis Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today the hiring of Andy Greer as an assistant coach.
"We're pleased to have Andy's expertise, experience and team orientation at the highest levels of professionalism in coaching joining our staff,” said Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach Marc Iavaroni. “He will enhance our effectiveness as a staff and we’re looking forward to that carrying over to our players."
Greer joins the Grizzlies from the Houston Rockets, where he served as an assistant coach for the last four seasons, spearheading the team’s advance scouting operation for his first two seasons before assisting on the bench in a full-time capacity. Greer also spent two years as an assistant with New York Knicks.
“I am extremely excited to be here in Memphis and to be a part of an up-and-coming team,” said Greer. “I look forward to a lot of success with coach Iavaroni’s staff and this organization.”
Prior to joining the Knicks, Greer spent nearly two decades in the collegiate coaching ranks, most recently with Northern Illinois as both an assistant and eventual interim head coach. Greer received his first head coaching position in 1993 with the United States Merchant Marine Academy and also served as an assistant at Genesee Community College, Mansfield University, Brandeis University, Boston University and the University of Southern California.
