InsideHoops.com NewsWire | Oct. 31, 2007
Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has picked up the option on the contract of guard Luther Head.
Head (6-3, 185, Illinois) has averaged 9.8 points and 2.6 assists in 161 games (37 starts) with Houston. He has also connected on 290-of-715 (.406) career 3-pointers. Named to the T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2005-06, Head played in the 2006 and 2007 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge during NBA All-Star Weekend. In 2006-07, Head recorded the third best 3-point field goal percentage in a season in Rockets history and ranked tied for fourth in the NBA (.441, 177-401 3FG). His 177 treys were the second most 3-pointers made in a season in franchise history. Head also set Houston's individual record with 37 consecutive games (11/4/06-1/13/07) with at least one 3-pointer made, surpassing Kenny Smith's previous franchise mark of 27 games (2/27/95-4/19/95).
Drafted by Houston in the first round (24th overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft, Head finished with 113 3-pointers made in 2005-06 to lead all NBA rookies in that category.
