Antawn Jamison Mini-Interview
By InsideHoops.com | Jan. 12, 2006
Washington Wizards forward Antawn Jamison is averaging 18.7 points and 10.0 rebounds on 41.8% shooting this season. At 14-19, the team isn't where they hoped they'd be at this point. InsideHoops.com editor Jeff Lenchiner recently caught up with Jamison for a quick exclusive interview.
InsideHoops.com: From a team standpoint, is effort the first thing you think of as far as what needs to be improved?
Antawn Jamison: No, I don't think so. Because, we play with effort. We got some tough guys on this team. I don't know if it's execution, or... we get drilled every day on what we need to do defensively. It's just hard to carry over from practice into the games. That's pretty much been the thing that's really been hurting us. The thing that we really can't put our finger on. So, I wouldn't say it's effort. It's going out there and transforming what we do in practice to games. And defensively, it's getting stops. That's something we did a pretty good job of last year, even though we didn't stop a lot of teams, but when we needed to get stops, we got them.
InsideHoops.com: It's still early in the season at least.
Antawn Jamison: It's still early, man. We still got the rest of this month and... to say that, can we salvage the season, there's still the second third of it.
InsideHoops.com: That's a word I think I heard a local Wizards writer use -- salvage -- is that what's being implied, that the season is starting to get lost?
Antawn Jamison: We know what's at stake. We know eventually we need to get it done. And we know that we can get it done. So, we don't really listen to outside influences or what people say or think. It's just about what the 13, 14 guys in this locker room feel. And getting it done. Still, in my mind it's just a matter of time, but that matter of time needs to happen very quickly.
