Memphis Grizzlies President of Basketball Operations Jerry West announced today the team has assigned forward Alexander Johnson to the NBA Development League’s Arkansas RimRockers, the Grizzlies’ D-League affiliate.
There have been 21 NBA players assigned to D-League affiliates this season. Twenty-six (26) NBA teams have designated 50 players to D-League affiliates since the start of the 2005-06 season.
Johnson, selected in second round (45th overall, Indiana) in the 2006 NBA Draft, has averaged 5.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 13.9 minutes in 44 games this season for Memphis. He scored a career-high 23 points on December 26 at Washington and posted his third double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds on February 7 at Dallas.
The 6-9, 240 pound rookie from Florida State becomes the third Grizzlies player to be assigned to the D-League, and first player this season. Lawrence Roberts and Anthony Roberson were assigned to the RimRockers last season.
