The New Jersey Nets have acquired guards Devin Harris, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager, center DeSagana Diop and forward Keith Van Horn along with Dallas’ first round draft picks in 2008 and 2010, and cash considerations from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for guard Jason Kidd and forwards Antoine Wright and Malik Allen, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today.

“This trade provides us with immediate help, most notably with the acquisition of Devin Harris, who we consider one of the rising young point guards in the NBA,” said Thorn. “Harris's numbers have improved each of his four years in the league, and we feel that he has a significant upside. This trade also will give us two future first round draft picks and will give us flexibility to improve our roster.”

"Jason Kidd has been the best player to wear a Nets uniform during my current tenure with the Nets,” added Thorn. “He was the toughest competitor with the fiercest will to win and he was the main component in the most successful period in the Nets NBA history. Jason is a first ballot Hall of Famer and the man most responsible for transforming the Nets into a high quality NBA team. We wish him nothing but success in his future endeavors.”

Harris, a 6’3”, 185-pound guard, was the fifth overall pick out of Wisconsin in the 2004 NBA Draft. Currently in his fourth NBA season, Harris is averaging career-highs of 14.4 points, 5.3 assists and 1.44 steals while shooting 48.3% from the field in 39 games. In 251 career games, Harris, has posted averages of 9.4 point and 3.4 assists per game. Harris has also appeared in 38 postseason games with Dallas, making 21 starts and averaging 8.3 points and 2.4 assists per game. One of the top young players in the NBA, Harris played in the All-Star Weekend Rookie/Sophomore Challenge, both as a rookie in 2005 and as a second year player in 2006. This past summer, Harris also received the honor of being named to the USA Basketball Select Team which was comprised of the best young NBA players chosen to play against Team USA in preparation for their international competition.

Diop, a 7’0”, 280-pound center, is in his seventh NBA season averaging 3.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.21 blocks in 52 games with Mavericks, making 18 starts. Originally drafted by Cleveland with the eighth overall selection in the first round of the 2001 NBA Draft, Diop played four seasons with the Cavaliers before signing as a free agent with Dallas prior to the 2005-06 season. In 407 career games, Diop has posted NBA averages of 2.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.21 blocks per game. Diop has played in a total of 28 playoff games, all with the Mavericks, with averages of 2.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.36 blocks per game.

Ager, who the Mavericks have re-assigned to the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League twice this season, has averaged 1.3 points in 12 games with the Mavericks this year and 17.4 points, 2.3 assists and 1.6 rebounds in eight games with the 66ers. The 6’5”, 202-pound guard out of Michigan State has averaged 1.9 points and 0.6 rebounds in 44 regular season games with the Mavericks. The 28th overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, Ager averaged 5.0 points in three career postseason games with the Mavericks.

Hassell, a 6’5” 200-pound guard, is in his seventh NBA season averaging 2.1 points and 1.2 rebounds in 37 games with Dallas. Selected out of Austin Peay with the 30th overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft by Chicago, Hassell has gone on to appear in 513 career games with Chicago, Minnesota and Dallas, with averages of 6.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Hassell has averaged 7.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 18 career postseason contests.

Van Horn, a nine-year NBA veteran, will be returning to the Nets after spending his first five seasons with New Jersey (1997-2002) before stints in Philadelphia, New York, Milwaukee and Dallas. A 6’10”, 240-pound forward, Van Horn has averaged 16.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 575 career regular season contests. Van Horn was originally selected by Philadelphia with the second overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft out of Utah and then traded to the Nets in an eight player trade on draft night. A member of the Nets 2002 Eastern Conference championship team, Van Horn holds career postseason averages of 9.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 57 postseason contests with New Jersey, Philadelphia, Milwaukee and Dallas. Van Horn has not appeared in uniform since the 2005-06 season.

Kidd, who was acquired from the Phoenix Suns for three players on July 18, 2001, appeared in 506 games for the Nets, averaging 14.6 points, 9.1 assists, 7.2 rebounds and 1.88 steals in six-plus seasons. The 6’4”, 210-pound guard out of California helped lead the Nets to a franchise record six straight playoff appearances, including consecutive trips to the NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003. In 997 games with Dallas, Phoenix and New Jersey, Kidd holds career averages of 14.3 points, 9.2 assists and 6.7 rebounds. The nine-time All-Star has been selected to the All-NBA Team six times, including three times as a Net, and the All-Defensive Team nine times, with six appearances as a member of the Nets. A 14-year NBA veteran, Kidd ranks 1st in Nets franchise history in assists (4,620), steals (950) and triple doubles (61), and is 3rd in points (7,373), 4th in rebounds (3,662) and 5th in games played (506). Kidd, who was selected with the second overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft and went on to win Co-Rookie of the Year honors, holds career postseason averages of 15.9 points, 9.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds in 100 games.

Wright, who the Nets selected with the 15th overall pick out of Texas A&M in the 2005 NBA Draft, averaged 4.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in 143 games with the Nets. The 6’7”, 210-pound forward is averaging career-highs in points (7.3 ppg), rebounds (2.3 rpg) and assists (1.6 apg) in 41 games this season, including 10 starts. Wright holds career postseason averages of 2.9 points and 1.4 rebounds in 17 postseason appearances.

Allen, a 6’10”, 255-pound forward, was signed as a free agent by the Nets on September 10, 2007. The Villanova product appeared in 48 games, including 12 starts, for the Nets during the 2007-08 campaign, averaging 5.4 points and 2.7 rebounds. A seven-year NBA veteran, Allen has appeared in 287 games during his career with Miami, Charlotte, Chicago and New Jersey, and holds career averages of 5.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Allen has averaged 3.9 points and 2.6 rebounds in 21 postseason contests with Miami and Chicago.
