Jamaal Magloire Interview

The Milwaukee Bucks recently traded Desmond Mason for all-star center Jamaal Magloire. With Andrew Bogut and Dan Gadzuric already on board, the team is now loaded with quality big men. The Bucks were recently in New Jersey, where they beat the Nets. InsideHoops.com editor Jeff Lenchiner met with Magloire after the game for an exclusive interview.
InsideHoops.com: What was your reaction to the trade? It came out of nowhere.
Jamaal Magloire: Yeah, it did. I knew that I would be traded at some point, but I didn't know where.
InsideHoops.com: You knew you would be traded this season?
Jamaal Magloire: Yeah, I knew I would be traded this season, but I wasn't sure where. And when they told me I was going to Milwaukee, it took me by surprise. But once I got the assurance of Coach Stott, Larry Harris and the Senator, I was anxious to get here.
InsideHoops.com: The Bucks have a great roster now, loaded and balanced at every spot.
Jamaal Magloire: I agree, I think it is a really balanced roster. We have a good mix of guys that enjoy playing defense as well as balance at one through five. So you can look at it from an offense, defense perspective, where we have guys that can stop their man, and we have a good flow of offensive guys, and if you want to look at it as positions as well, we have backups at every position that we feel confident with. And we feel we have a lot of depth.
InsideHoops.com: You're a center, Andrew Bogut is a center, and there's more depth at that spot and the power forward position... It's a logjam, but I mean that in a good way. It's a good problem to have, too many good players at key big spots.
Jamaal Magloire: I don't see it as a logjam. I see a lot of good players that are willing to play with one another and willing to make this thing work. And that's what it's all about.
InsideHoops.com: And now you guys are 2-0 and came back from being down both games.
Jamaal Magloire: I think we're resilient. Being down 16, the last two games, we showed that if we stick to our game plan, and play defense, we give ourselves a chance to get back in the game and have a chance to win at the end.
InsideHoops.com: That's something, being down by lots of points on back-to-back nights, and coming back both times for the win.
Jamaal Magloire: Yeah, it shows a lot of character on our part. I've only been with this team a few days, and I believe once I get into sync and get into the flow of what they're trying to do on offense, it's going to be a lot more difficult for teams to compete.
InsideHoops.com: Your point guard, TJ Ford, is literally running circles around everyone. What have you seen from him so far?
Jamaal Magloire: I see him being fearless. The fact that he's had such a serious injury like the one he went through last year, and to come back and play the way he's playing shows that he's hungry and setting a good example for everybody else in this league.
InsideHoops.com: People were rooting for him to come back, without knowing exactly how good he'd be, and not only has he come back but he looks fantastic.
Jamaal Magloire: He's playing at a level that few point guards play at in this league, and just has to continue the good effort, and everybody will feed off of him. I see him being the floor general of this team, getting everybody open on the court, and doing a good job.
InsideHoops.com: And Michael Redd, he'll take it easy for a quarter or two, and then go insane and rack up big points. Does he do that in practice? Being quiet for a few minutes and then nailing tons of shots?
Jamaal Magloire: Well I haven't even been with this team, practicing, so I wouldn't know. But he scores in bunches, he has a lot of talent, and has been an all-star before and he'll be one again.
