Shawn Marion Interview
Western Conference Finals | May 28, 2006
In the 2006 NBA Playoffs the Phoenix Suns are tied 1-1 with the Dallas Mavericks in the Western conference finals. Here's what Suns star forward Shawn Marion said to the media on Saturday, the day after Game 2:
Q. On the team being comfortable with an incrased role for Boris Diaw
SHAWN MARION: “Of course. We want everybody to score. Everybody is playing off of each other, and right now we’re playing pick-and-roll very well and Boris is going.”
Q. On having homecourt
SHAWN MARION: “You have to take care of business at home. Regardless of how you look at it, we have a chance to gain some ground here, and we need to go ahead and get this first one [on Sunday]. Everything else will take care of itself.”
Q. On the Suns’ injuries
SHAWN MARION: “You just have to keep it going. We could sit here and focus on injuries or no injuries, but we just have to go out and keep it going. This time of year, you have to suck it up, regardless of nagging injuries or not. You have to go out there and get it done.”
Q. On the Mavericks size
SHAWN MARION: “I think that we need a few more rebounds. But, other than that, I think we’re doing a good job on them.”
Q. On Boris Diaw’s play
SHAWN MARION: “I think when we boil it down to the playoffs, it’s about how teams adjust to the pick-and-roll, because that’s primarily what everybody runs. We’re playing pick-and-roll and they can’t really stop us right now. We’re running them and we’re scoring. Boris and Steve are the ones doing it right now and scoring.”
Q. On Leandro Barbosa’s struggles in the series
SHAWN MARION: “We’re coming home. He can get his shot going. Regardless of struggling or not, we won one game. We lost the other one, but at the same time, it was right there last night and we could have won easily. We just have to pick him up, getting him some confidence, and if he gets one shot and it’ll open up for him.”
Q. On possible Suns adjustments.
SHAWN MARION: “If we are going to make adjustments, I’m not going to tell you. But we just have to go into this game and get it done. If you go out there and play hard and leave it on the floor, good things happen.”
