Dallas Mavericks waive DJ Mbenga

The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have requested waivers
on center DJ Mbenga.
Mbenga (7-0, 240) has played three seasons in Dallas and holds career
averages of 1.3 points and 0.9 rebounds in 79 games with the Mavericks. The
Congo native originally signed as a rookie free agent on July 14, 2004 after
playing with the Mavericks summer league squad. He was re-signed on July 13,
2006.
Mbenga has also seen action in 7 postseason games, all of which came during
the Mavericks' 2006 run to the NBA Finals.
Last season, Mbenga played in 21 games before suffering a torn right ACL on
Feb. 7, 2007. He returned to the court for the first time on Oct. 23, 2007
in the Mavericks preseason finale against the Chicago Bulls. In that game,
Mbenga recorded 5 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 1 assist in 12 minutes of
action.
