Pistons waive Sammy Mejia

Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that the club has waived forward Sammy Mejia.
In six preseason games (no starts), Mejia averaged 1.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 9.0 minutes per game. He was drafted by Detroit in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft (#57 overall).
The 6-foot-6 rookie from DePaul earned All-Big-East Conference Second Team honors a year ago averaging 14.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. He ended his college career as the school’s ninth all-time leading scorer (1,494 points) and was the second player in school history to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists, 100 steals and 100 three-point field goals in a career.
