Pacers Sports & Entertainment announced Friday the hiring of Jim Morris as Special Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and President.
Morris joins PS&E after spending five years as the Executive Director for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), where he oversaw the world’s largest humanitarian agency. The WFP has more than 12,000 staff members, 90 percent of whom work in the developing world.
“Jim has been one of the most valuable assets this community has had in the last 30 years and we are extremely fortunate to have him as part of the Pacers’ family,” said Donnie Walsh, Chief Executive Officer and President of Pacers Sports & Entertainment.
“I have been a fan of the Indiana Pacers from the very beginning. My wife, Jackie, and I love this city, state and the Pacers. Joining the organization is an honor for both of us,” said Morris. “The Pacers are a model franchise and are a critical part of the fabric of this community. I have the highest expectations to continue to bring that greatness to our city and state and continue to help young people through the Pacers’ initiatives and programs. The commitment of Mel and Herb Simon, along with Donnie Walsh and Larry Bird, exemplifies the best of all of us and the best of Indiana.”
Prior to Morris’ role as head of WFP, he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for IWC Resources Corporation and Indianapolis Water Company from 1989-2002. From 1973-89, he served in several capacities for Lilly Endowment, Inc., including President from 1984-89. Prior to joining Lilly Endowment, Morris served as Administrative Assistant and Chief of Staff to the Office of the Mayor, City of Indianapolis from 1967-73.
Morris has spent more than 35 years in a leadership role in business, philanthropic and humanitarian ventures, along with a personal life of public service. Morris serves on numerous boards and volunteers much of his time to countless civic and community organizations.
In his current role with PS&E, Morris will expand and enhance the organization’s community core values, outreach and partnerships.
