Nets sign Eduardo Najera and Jarvis HayesThe New Jersey Nets have signed free agent forward Eduardo Najera and guard/forward Jarvis Hayes, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contracts were not released.

“We are very pleased to add two veterans like Eduardo and Jarvis to our roster,” said Thorn. “Both are solid, competitive NBA players who will add versatility and depth to both our frontcourt and backcourt rotations.”

Najera, an eight-year NBA veteran, played in 78 games last season for the Denver Nuggets, averaging 5.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game. Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, the 6’8” forward out of the University of Oklahoma was originally selected by Houston in the second round (38th overall) of the 2000 NBA Draft and had his draft rights immediately traded to the Dallas Mavericks. Najera played four seasons in Dallas before being traded to Golden State prior to the 2004-05 season as part of an eight-player deal. After 42 games as a Warrior, Najera was dealt to Denver in a mid-season trade, where he played until the conclusion of the 2007-08 season. Over his eight NBA seasons, Najera has played in 493 career games, averaging 5.5 points and 4.1 rebounds, while shooting 49.3% from the field. In 54 career playoff games, Najera holds postseason averages of 4.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 16.5 minutes per game.

Hayes, a 6’8” forward, played in all 82 games last season for the Detroit Pistons, averaging 6.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game. Originally drafted by Washington with the 10th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft out of the University of Georgia, Hayes spent four seasons with the Wizards before signing as a free agent with the Pistons prior to the 2007-08 season. The five-year NBA veteran holds career averages of 8.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 308 games and 4.4 points and 2.0 rebounds in 15 career playoff games.
