NBA Salary Caps History

Each season's NBA salary cap, starting with the 1984-85 season. The NBA salary cap is the maximum dollar amount each NBA team can spend on its players for the season. However, because the NBA uses a "soft" salary cap - there are "salary exceptions" that allow teams to go over the limit. Most NBA teams do go over.

The NBA salary cap for each season is determined during the offseason. In early August of 2005 it was announced that the cap for the 2005-06 NBA season is $49.5 million. The previous season it was $43.87 million.
