Ricky Davis Interview

Ricky Davis, a former Cleveland Cavalier who put up big stats and a big attitude, was traded to the Boston Celtics during this season. In this exclusive interview with InsideHoops.com, Davis makes it clear how badly he wanted out of Cleveland.

InsideHoops.com: What could have gone better in Cleveland? Can you talk about what would have made things better?

Ricky Davis: Not really. Just get me out of there. That was pretty much the best thing that could have happened.

InsideHoops.com: Why, what was so bad?

Ricky Davis: Just tired of losing. We got a great young kid, LeBron (James) with the draft, but guys still don't know how to win games. Had to get to a team that knows how to win games.

InsideHoops.com: Knowing how to win, is it a mental thing, a roster thing, or what?

Ricky Davis: It's a roster thing. It's a mental thing. It's a physical thing. It's wanting it. Guys been here (Boston), know how to play and go within a system.

InsideHoops.com: On paper, it looked like the Cavs, while you were on them, had a pretty good roster, both for right now as well as the future.

Ricky Davis: We were nice, though. We had me, LeBron, D-Miles, Boozer, Z.

InsideHoops.com: So how does it go from looking good on paper to not working on the court?

Ricky Davis: No system. No organization. When you're just out there playing, guys are better, same speed, same quickness, it's hard to execute when you don't have a system.

InsideHoops.com: Did you know the trade from Cleveland was coming? Were you surprised?

Ricky Davis: No, not at all. I wanted to get out of there.

InsideHoops.com: And you made it clear that you wanted that?

Ricky Davis: Yeah.

InsideHoops.com: Did you say to them, "get me the hell out of here?"

Ricky Davis: No, I mean... I let my agent do that work.
