John Salmons Interview
By InsideHoops.com
Philadelphia 76ers swingman John Salmons is a jack of all trades, doing whatever job on the court is necessary for the team to win. He went to high school in Pennsylvania, started 107 straight games in four seasons at the University of Miami, and he's now in his second season as a Sixer. InsideHoops.com met with Salmons for a quick interview.
InsideHoops.com: In college, what are your favorite memories? Either on the court or off.
John Salmons: There's really nothing like it. Just watching the football game right here (in the locker room), it's just the whole thing, the culture of the games, the fans, the alumni, all that stuff. The whole atmosphere.
InsideHoops.com: When you got drafted, did you know where you were going to go?
John Salmons: Tell tell you the truth, I didn't really know. I was told a whole lot of different things. I was just hoping I could get in the first round somewhere. God did it, took care of all that.
InsideHoops.com: Any guarantees from teams come your way? Did you have an idea where you'd go?
John Salmons: Well, I was told I could be here. But I was told a lot of different things. I didn't really know.
InsideHoops.com: Talk about what's surprised you a bit about the NBA, as you get used to the league.
John Salmons: How fast the game is. How much stronger the players are. In college, I was one of the strongest players in college. Now, I'm like one of the weakest (laughs).
InsideHoops.com: Once you signed your NBA contract, did you go nuts and buy anything cool right away?
John Salmons: No, I just waited for a while, just tried to take everything in. I didn't go right out buying stuff.
InsideHoops.com: What kinds of things have other players or anyone told you or taught you about your game and development in general?
John Salmons: A lot of people give you a lot of different advice, but my biggest thing is, I just see G*d first, and He guides me, so, He tells me what I need to do.
