The Orlando Magic will host the 2017 Orlando Pro Summer League at the team’s practice court at the Amway Center from July 1-6, 2017. The 20-game, six-day event will feature teams from the Orlando Magic, along with the Charlotte Hornets, Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder.

This will be the 14th year that Orlando has hosted a summer league.

Each team will play five games over the six-day event, with a championship day being played on the final day of the league. A point system will establish the standings leading up to the final day, with eight points awarded each game based on: four points for winning the game and one point for winning a quarter (in the event of a tied quarter, each team will receive 0.5 points). In the event of ties in seeding heading into championship day, three tiebreakers will be in place: 1) total point differential; 2) total points allowed; 3) coin flip.

The event is not open to the public. It's only open to the media and professional team/league personnel.

The Orlando White team defeated the Detroit Pistons, 87-84 (OT), in the championship game of the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. Orlando White entered the final day of summer league play in second place with 26 points and ended the week with a perfect 5-0 record.

-Score three points (team B wins the game outright)

-Not score and the possession concludes with a defensive rebound, offensive foul, or turnover, in which case Team A wins and the game is over.

The 25-game, seven-day event will feature the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers.

The Orlando summer basketball league is the smaller of the two summer pro leagues. The bigger and main event, Las Vegas Summer League, is generally what people are referencing to if they just mention "NBA Summer League" without specifying the location.

Note that summer league rosters are VERY different from regular season rosters. A summer league roster typically includes that team's rookies, and maybe a select few other young players from the team's regular season roster. But the vast majority of players on a summer league roster are usually free agents who are trying to make the NBA. Some have prior experience in the league, many others do not. The majority of them play professional basketball overseas, and are trying to land an NBA job. They're at summer league trying to impress everybody, not just the one summer squad they happen to be on.

Unlike Vegas, the Orlando summer league basketball is closed to the public. You can watch most (possibly all) games on NBA TV, though.

The 2013 edition of the Orlando summer pro basketball league will feature 25 games over six days. Teams competing this summer are the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz.

A new Orlando summer league format will be introduced this summer, with two extra teams and an extra day added to the slate. Under the new format, each team will play five games over the six-day event, with a championship day being played on the final day of the league. Houston 88, Philadelphia 80: Behind 24 points and 12 rebounds from Terrence Jones, the Rockets cruised past the Sixers, 88-80, in the opener of the 2013 Southwest Orlando Pro Summer League on Sunday. The Rockets also got major contributions from two other standouts from last season’s playoff campaign. Patrick Beverley, who played in 41 games last regular season and started in five of the six playoff games for Houston against Oklahoma City, pitched in 10 points and six assists, while Greg Smith added eight points and six rebounds. -OrlandoMagic.com

Orlando 95, Boston 88: Victor Oladipo, the second overall pick of the NBA Draft, scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and handed out seven assists in his debut as the Orlando Magic beat the Boston Celtics 95-88 in first-day action of the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League. Splitting his time between shooting guard and point guard, Oladipo got off to a strong start with two early 3-pointers and then he closed the game with some stellar passing. He banked in a straight-on jump shot in the fourth quarter to put the Magic up 89-82. UTah 69, Miami 59: For a team that’s heading towards a youth movement, there’s no better time to see what the future has to offer than the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League. Utah got a glimpse at a few members of their young nucleus as rookie Trey Burke notched eight points, seven rebounds and five assists to help the Jazz earn a 69-59 victory over the Miami Heat. “He’s done a great job of leading his teammates,” said Utah coach Sidney Lowe. “It’s very encouraging to see out of a young guy.” -OrlandoMagic.com

OKC 76, Indiana 68: Playing on the court where he spent much of his first two NBA season rehabilitating a surgically repaired knee, center Daniel Orton scored 15 points and even hit a 3-pointer as Oklahoma City defeated Indiana 76-68 in first-day action of the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League. Orton, the 29th pick of the 2010 NBA Draft, spent his first two NBA seasons in Orlando. However, he played just 16 games for the Magic because of a knee injury. On Sunday, he made seven of 11 shots, including a dazzling up-and-under layup with 3:02 to play that gave the Thunder (1-0) a 68-61 lead. Oklahoma City led 53-51 after three periods and proceeded to pull away with a 23-17 edge in the fourth quarter. On Monday, the Thunder will face the Magic, while the Pacers (0-1) will play the 76ers. -OrlandoMagic.com

Detroit 76, Brooklyn 67: The Brooklyn Nets failed to secure a victory in new Head Coach Jason Kidd’s NBA coaching debut, falling 76-67 to the Detroit Pistons to round out day one of the 2013 Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. Detroit, who had six players register at least seven points, were led by Khris Middleton’s 16. It was a tale of two very different games for first round draft picks Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Mason Plumlee. Caldwell-Pope, chosen No. 8 in this year’s draft, struggled from the floor the entire game, hitting only 1-of-10 from the field and missing all eight of his attempts from downtown. OKC 79, Orlando 78: Jeremy Lamb, one of the key pieces acquired in last fall’s controversial James Harden trade to Houston, drilled a step-back jumper with 6.3 seconds remaining to lift Oklahoma City past Orlando 79-78. Lamb struggled with his shot most of the day, hitting just four of 16 shots and missing eight of nine 3-pointers. But he created space against Orlando defensive ace Maurice Harkless and sank the go-ahead jumper from the foul line in the final seconds. Orlando (1-1) led by nine points with 3 minutes to play and squandered a seven-point lead in the final two minutes. The Thunder (2-0) led 8-7 early in the game and didn’t get the lead back until a layup by Dwight Buycks with 32 seconds remaining. Orlando’s Doron Lamb hit two free throws with 23 seconds remaining to give the Magic a brief 78-77 lead. After Lamb’s shot, Orlando turned the ball over on the inbounds pass to miss a chance to win the game. -OrlandoMagic.com

Indiana 96, Philadelphia 75: The player garnering the most attention this week for the Sixers; Michael Carter-Williams, the 11th overall pick in last month’s NBA Draft. After his outstanding debut on Sunday when he posted 26 points and eight assists, Carter-Williams followed that up with 13 points and seven assists. But more importantly, he didn’t commit a single turnover, an item of concern going into his NBA career. While Philly fell to a Solomon Hill-led Pacers squad, 96-75, the point guard’s poise and control was striking. He didn’t shoot it well – just 4-for-20 from the floor – but that’s rather insignificant when you weigh in what the Sixers are hoping from their floor general in the years ahead. -OrlandoMagic.com

Boston 93, Detroit 63: Fresh off a dominant Day 1 in the 2013 Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League, Celtics forward Kelly Olynyk came into Day 2 looking to prove that his opening-game effort was no fluke. The 7-foot forward once again put together a polished performance in limited minutes, notching 13 points, six rebounds and three assists in Boston’s 93-63 blowout victory over the Detroit Pistons on Monday afternoon. The Celtics acquired Olynyk in a draft-day deal with the Dallas Mavericks, moving up three slots in the 2013 NBA Draft to grab the Gonzaga standout. Miami 93, Brooklyn 86: The Nets and Heat both came into day two of the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League winless, but the Miami Heat got a notch in the win column Monday, downing the Brooklyn Nets, 93-86, at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. The Heat featured a balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures, led by Scotty Hopson’s 22 and Ian Clark’s 19 points. Boston 76, Indiana 74: For the third straight game at the 2013 Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League, Kelly Olynyk showcased his array of post moves, polished all-around offensive arsenal and willingness to bang inside. His 21 points and nine rebounds together with a pair of go-ahead free throws by Phil Pressey with 10.8 seconds left catapulted the Boston Celtics to a thrilling 76-74 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Donald Sloan’s potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer rimmed off for Indiana, which erased a nine-point deficit with just over two minutes left in the game. -OrlandoMagic.com

OKC 79, Detroit 75: After a relatively quiet start to the 2013 Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League, Oklahoma City’s Reggie Jackson certainly made his presence felt on Tuesday by delivering a record-setting performance. The Thunder point guard erupted for 23 of his summer-league record 35 points in the fourth quarter to give Oklahoma City a thrilling 79-75 victory over the Detroit Pistons. Jackson was incredible down the stretch, coming through with the go-ahead driving dunk with 1:48 left and then following it up with four game-sealing free throws in the final 13.1 seconds. -OrlandoMagic.com

Houston 85, Utah 71: Utah was plagued by turnovers and poor shooting, turning over the ball 18 times en route to 28 Houston points while shooting just 37.7 percent from the floor. The Jazz were led in scoring by Alec Burks, who, despite hitting just 5-of-15 from the floor, finished with 18 points. Trey Burke struggled from the field as well, also connecting on just five of his 15 field goal attempts while making just 1-of-6 from downtown. Miami 94, Orlando 80: With two-time NBA champion head coach Erik Spoelstra and his coaching staff shouting instructions from courtside seats, the Miami Heat shared the ball well and disrupted the Orlando Magic’s offense in a 94-80 victory. Miami (2-1) forced Orlando (1-2) into 21 turnovers and frustrated rookie point guard Victor Oladipo in third-day action of the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League. Utah 98, Brooklyn 69: The Utah Jazz rested prized rookie Trey Burke on Wednesday and still had more than enough firepower to shred the winless Brooklyn Nets and rookie head coach Jason Kidd. Behind strong play from forwards Jeremy Evans, Chris Roberts and Alec Burks, Utah built a 22-point lead in the first half and rolled to a 98-69 defeat of the Nets. The game ended in partial darkness as the lights went out with six-tenths of a seconds remaining. OKC 74, Philadelphia 62: Just one day after Reggie Jackson set the record for most points in Orlando Pro Summer League history, his teammate Jeremy Lamb almost topped him. Lamb, who was acquired by the Thunder prior to the start of last season in the James Harden trade, poured in 32 points as the Thunder remained undefeated (4-0) with a 74-62 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday. Indiana 79, Utah 73: Trey Burke’s time at the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League has not helped silence any of his critics. But his supporters believe this week’s struggles are exactly what he needs to adjust and transform his game by the time the games actually count. After his 3-for-15 shooting performance on Thursday in Utah’s loss to the Indiana Pacers, Burke is now 9-for-42 from the floor in three games. He didn’t play (rest) Wednesday. Burke led the Michigan Wolverines to the NCAA title game in March and was named the National Player of the Year before getting selected ninth overall in last month’s NBA Draft. Houston 92, Brooklyn 76: Brooklyn struggled from the start, shooting 11.1 percent from the field in the game’s opening quarter en route to a 25-6 deficit. The slow start quickly turned around, however, as the Nets outscored the Rockets the next two quarters, winning only their third and fourth quarters of the week. Under the new points system at summer league, each team that wins a quarter is awarded one point, while the winning team receives three points. Despite Brooklyn’s resurgence, they still couldn’t overcome the early hole and failed to cut the lead to single digits in the second half. ORLANDO SUMMER LEAGUE 2012

The Orlando Magic will host the AirTran Airways Orlando Pro Summer League at the team’s practice court at the Amway Center from July 9-13, 2012. The 20-game event will feature the Orlando Magic, Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons.

Due to space limitations, the event is not open to the public and will be open only to the media and professional team/league personnel. Games will begin at 11 a.m. from July 9-12, and at 8 a.m. on July 13.

2009 NBA Orlando Summer League Review

The Indianapolis Star reports: The Indiana Pacers wrapped up an impressive week of summer league play with a 68-54 victory over the host Orlando Magic on Friday. The Pacers (5-0) were led all week by the tandem of center Roy Hibbert and rookie forward Tyler Hansbrough.

All-Orlando Summer League Players

Orlando Magic forward Ryan Anderson was selected by fans as a member of the 2009 Orlando Pro All-Summer League First Team at the conclusion of the six-team, five-day event Friday at the RDV Sportsplex in Orlando, Fla.

The First and Second Team selections were picked by the listeners of the live Dante & Galante summer league webcast on OrlandoMagic.com. There are no "official" teams being selected.

Anderson, who averaged 21.4 points and a league-high 9.4 rebounds over the five-game stretch, was joined on the All-Summer League Team by teammate Kasib Powell, whose 14.8 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per contest earned him Second Team honors. Russell Westbrook and James Harden of the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers’ Tyler Hansbrough and Roy Hibbert accompanied Anderson with First Team honors.

Joining Powell on the second team is Mareese Speights of the New Jersey Nets/Philadelphia 76ers, J.R. Giddens and Nick Fazekas of the Boston Celtics and D.J. White of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Orlando finished summer league play with a record of 2-3, while the Indiana Pacers went 5-0 over the course of the week, becoming only the second team in the seven-year history of the league to go undefeated (in addition to the Miami Heat in 2002).

Pacers 75, Nets/Sixers 67 - OrlandoMagic.com reports: It may not have been an NBA regular season game at the RDV Sportsplex practice facility in Orlando on Monday, but Marreese Speights demonstrated why he earned valuable minutes for the Philadelphia 76ers this past season. The former University of Florida standout flourished in his return home to his native state with 28 points and 11 rebounds, but the Nets/Sixers couldn’t overcome the Indiana Pacers in a 75-67 overtime defeat in the first game of the 2009 Orlando Pro Summer League... Despite committing four fouls in the first half, Hansbrough, the all-time scoring leader in the ACC, posted a team-high 17 points for Indiana. Holiday, meanwhile, who played just one season at UCLA, collected nine points and two assists for NJ/Philadelphia.

Thunder 88, Magic 77 - OrlandoMagic.com reports: Oklahoma City was led by second-year guard Russell Westbrook, who recorded 22 points, 16 of which came at the free throw line. James Harden, the third selection of June’s NBA Draft, chipped in 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting... Guards Maurice Ager and Jeremy Richardson combined for 20 of Orlando’s first-half points. Richardson finished with 18 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds... Ryan Anderson, who came over with Vince Carter in last month's five-player deal, finished with a team-high 21 points (13 in the third) to go along with seven rebounds.

Celtics 87, Jazz 56 - OrlandoMagic.com reports: Lester Hudson, the 58th selection in the 2009 NBA Draft who is the only player in NCAA history to register a quadruple-double, posted 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field... Other standout performers included Gabe Pruitt and Bill Walker, who each earned some minutes this past season for the C’s. Pruitt and Walker combined for 25 points... College teammates Derrick Brown and Josh Duncan, who together helped Xavier accomplish many extraordinary feats, combined for 21 points for the Jazz.

Magic 85, Celtics 82 - OrlandoMagic.com reports: Ryan Anderson notched a double-double with 33 points and 14 rebounds as the Orlando Magic earned their first victory at the 2009 Orlando Pro Summer League with Tuesday’s 85-82 triumph over the Boston Celtics... Coby Karl, who returned to action after missing Monday’s opener due to a FIBA technicality, led Boston with 18 points, while J.R. Giddens contributed 17 points and Nick Fazekas had 12.

Jazz 83, Nets/Sixers 68 - OrlandoMagic.com reports: Eric Maynor demonstrated Tuesday why the Jazz selected him with the 20th overall pick in June’s NBA Draft as his 12 points, five rebounds and four assists helped jolt the Jazz to an 83-68 triumph over the Nets/76ers... With solid play from Josh Duncan, Utah outscored its opponent, 42-30, in the paint. Duncan finished with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field... Chris Douglas-Roberts had another spectacular game for the Nets/Sixers with a game-high 27 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor.

Pacers 91, Thunder 88 - OrlandoMagic.com reports: Roy Hibbert and Tyler Hansbrough dominated in the paint with a combined 47 points and 12 rebounds as the Indiana Pacers earned their second straight victory at the 2009 Orlando Pro Summer League with Tuesday’s 91-88 triumph over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Hansbrough, who recorded 23 points, iced the win with a pair of go-ahead free throws with 2.3 seconds remaining. Hibbert established himself on the interior and finished with a game-high 24 points. Russell Westbrook, who exploded late to give the Thunder a lead in the final two minutes, guided Oklahoma City with 22 points and eight assists. Rookie sensation James Harden posted 19 points, but missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The two interior forces combined for 45 points (Hansbrough 24, Hibbert 21) and 13 rebounds, a day after uniting for 47 and 12, as the Indiana Pacers cruised past the Utah Jazz, 95-79, to remain perfect (3-0) on Wednesday... James Augustine led the Jazz, who dropped to 1-2, with 12 points and five rebounds, while Derrick Brown and Josh Duncan each scored 10.

Thunder 94, Celtics 82 - OrlandoMagic.com reports: Russell Westbrook recorded 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field and added five assists as the Thunder coasted past the Boston Celtics, 94-82, on Wednesday at the 2009 Orlando Pro Summer League... D.J. White and Kyle Weaver combined for 28 points, while Shaun Livingston, who is starting to show significant improvements since suffering a devastating knee injury in 2007, scored 10... J.R. Terrence Williams paced the Nets/76ers with 14 points, while Marreese Speights and Dionte Christmas each recorded 10.

Jazz 92, Magic 84 - OrlandoMagic.com reports: The Jazz were led by Derrick Brown, who contributed 25 points and five rebounds in 22 minutes. Kevin Kruger (16), Wes Matthews (15) and Josh Duncan (11) rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Jazz, with Michigan State product Goran Suton leading Utah with 10 boards... The Pacers, whose two first-round picks are not participating in the league, started the game on an 8-0 run. Following a timeout at the 7:57 mark, Oklahoma City got on the board with a bucket by first-round pick D.J. White. Oklahoma City’s first-round pick Russell Westbrook (fourth overall) scored eight consecutive points in the quarter to pull the team back within five, at 21-16. His driving layup over two defenders brought the score to 24-23 with under a minute to go in the quarter. Indiana added a free throw to end the quarter with a score of 25-23... Miami 94, Chicago 70 -- OrlandoMagic.com reports: The much anticipated match-up between Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose proved to live up to its billing Monday, and it was Beasley's Heat that came out victorious, 94-70. Beasley, who is playing with a slightly fractured sternum, had the upper hand early, leading Miami with nine points in the first half, while playing just over eight minutes. Rose, playing with a sore right knee, managed three points on 1-of-3 shooting in 15 minutes of action in the first half. Demetris Nichols led Chicago with 11 points in the half... When the second half began, the action began to pick up between the two top draft picks. Rose displayed spectacular speed on multiple buckets, scoring seven points in the third quarter. Meanwhile, Beasley exhibited his solid shooting touch, lighting up the nets for 14 third-quarter points, extending Chicago's lead to 20, 73-53, at the end of three... He came up empty for the half from the field, shooting a woeful 0-for-9. His only positive performances came from the free throw line, where he went 4-for-4, and in the rebounding department, where he notched six boards, five of which were offensive. With Beasley not performing up to his abilities, second-round draft pick Mario Chalmers stepped up his game. Chalmers finished the half with 13 points, eight of which came from the free throw line. He also dished out two assists. His performance, coupled with Kasib Powell’s 11 points, kept the Nets at bay. .. The top performer for the Heat was Mario Chalmers, who finished with 19 points, nine assists, three steals and two rebounds. Anthony Morrow also added 19 and Kasib Powell finished with 17 points and five rebounds. Beasley’s miserable day ended with a stat line of nine points, five turnovers, seven fouls, seven rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot. The Nets lost the game, but they had strong performances from their top two draft picks. Oklahoma City 100, Orlando 77 -- OrlandoMagic.com reports: Kevin Durant performed brilliantly, hitting 7 of 10 shots from the floor and wasa leader on the court throughout. But the new Oklahoma City faithful should know that they have more than the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year on their team. Their first round draft pick, Russell Westbrook, has played more consistent than anyone in the league thus far, showing uncanny quickness both on the offensive and defensive ends of the court. Jeff Green has also shown growth in his game, averaging 25.5 points per game... On the Orlando side, James Augustine had a better first quarter than his entire game on Monday. He scored six points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field... As Oklahoma City emptied its bench early in the fourth quarter, Orlando’s Courtney Lee came to life, splitting double teams for layups and hitting shots from outside. Chicago 89, Indiana 84 -- OrlandoMagic.com reports: Derrick Rose's second NBA appearance was quite similar to his first. The rookie guard struggled again from the floor, shooting just 2-for-9, and scoring nine points, but the Bulls topped the Indiana Pacers 89-84. Once again it was forward Demetris Nichols who delivered early for Chicago. After scoring 11 points in the first half of Monday's game, Nichols did the same today against Indiana, finishing with 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting in the first 20 minutes of play... The Bulls started the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run tying the game at 59 with 7:58 remaining, forcing Indiana to call a time out. Thereafter, consecutive threes by Keith Langford and Demetris Nichols put Chicago ahead by six, 66-60. The Bulls, playing without Rose for nearly all of the fourth, put on a shooting display, making a stellar 65 percent of their fourth-quarter shots, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. In defense of Chicago, Tyrus Thomas did not play, but Lopez was too much for Bulls big men Aaron Gray and Joakim Noah to handle. The tenth pick of the draft scored on a plethora of moves, including a 19-foot-fade-away jumper as the shot clock expired early in the fourth quarter... Orlando 82, Indiana 80 -- OrlandoMagic.com reports: The Magic played catch-up themselves in the fourth, falling behind by as many as five, 75-70, on two free throws from Stephen Graham with 3:04 left on the clock. But Orlando answered with a Courtney Lee jumper from the elbow and a Marcin Gortat lay-in to cut the lead to one, and then Lee gave the Magic their first lead of the quarter, 76-75, on another 15-footer. After pushing the margin up to six, Indiana made their move when Graham was fouled on the 3-point line on the Pacers’ next possession. After converting the first two, the third shot from the charity stripe went off the hands of a Magic player, and the subsequent inbounds play saw the Pacers’ Shawne Williams hit a 3-pointer from the wing with only 8.3 seconds left in the game to trim the advantage to one. The seven-footer scored a game-high 25 points on 8-for-13 shooting as New Jersey topped the Indiana Pacers 107-99... With Lopez resting, the Pacers went to work in the second quarter. Led by guard Ali Berdiel, who scored eight points on 3-for-3 shooting in the quarter, the Pacers outscored the Nets 17-5 to start the quarter, forcing New Jersey summer league head coach Tom Barrise to call a timeout with Indiana leading, 40-30.
