The USA Basketball Men's and Women's Senior National teams
will be wearing distinctly new
"stars and stripes" style uniforms and practice wear that incorporate the
latest lightweight and moisture-wicking materials when they take to the court
this summer. Both teams will have three uniform options for the first time ever,
reintroducing colors from the past.
Combining inspiration from the 1952 USA Basketball team with today's popular designs and improved performance elements, the uniform contains navy inserts featuring red horizontal stripes running from the jersey to the short, while utilizing Reebok's Play-Dry technology which offers the ultimate body moisture management and temperature control. The classic "USA" arch adorns the front of the jersey with the star/ball logo featured on the sides of the short. The full USA Basketball logo appears on both the jersey and the short.
Each team will wear a new third uniform, a patriotic lineup that now consists of red, white and navy blue. The men have added red, a color they have not worn since 1984, while the women have brought back navy blue, last worn in 1992. Both teams will choose between red and blue for games they are designated as the road team, while continuing to wear white for all home games.
"The combination of some of the best basketball players in the world with a retro inspired design and performance fabric make these products extremely appealing," said USA Basketball President Tom Jernstedt. "The high caliber of talent representing the United States deserves the highest caliber of uniform."
The USA Basketball Men's Senior National team opens its training on July 26 in Jacksonville, Fla., and plays its first exhibition game on July 31 in Jacksonville. The official roster includes: Tim Duncan, Allen Iverson, LeBron James, Richard Jefferson, Stephon Marbury, Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire. The 2004 USA Basketball Women's Senior National team opens its training on August 3 in New York and will compete in the "WNBA vs. USA Basketball: The Game at Radio City" on August 5.
