Los Angeles Clippers sign Vin Baker
Clippers News | Feb. 20, 2006
Los Angeles Clippers Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor announced today that the team has signed free agent power forward Vin Baker. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
A four-time NBA All-Star, Baker has career averages of 15.1 points and 7.5 rebounds in 783 career games. Baker has been named to the All-NBA team twice in his career and has 24 games of playoff experience. He was also a member of the 2000 Olympic Men’s Basketball Team that won a gold medal in Sydney, Australia.
Baker was originally drafted by Mike Dunleavy and the Milwaukee Bucks with the eighth overall selection in the 1993 NBA Draft. He enjoyed his most productive NBA season under Dunleavy, averaging a career-high 21.1 points during the 1995-96 campaign. Following Dunleavy’s departure from Milwaukee, Baker was dealt to Seattle and played five seasons for the Sonics from 1997-2002. He has also played for Boston, New York and Houston during his 12-year career.
The Los Angeles Clippers roster now stands at 15 players.
InsideHoops.com Editor Says: I assume this is a non-guaranteed, minimum-salary contract. It better be. This move is just to add some size, because Chris Wilcox is gone and his replacement, Vladimir Radmanovic, plays more like a shooting guard than a big guy. Assuming they can cut Baker loose at any time, I have no problem with this move. And there's always a slight chance Baker solved his personal issues and can actually help a team.
