The Denver Nuggets have acquired G Taurean Green from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for G Von Wafer, Nuggets Vice President of Basketball Operations Mark Warkentien announced today.
A third-year pro out of Florida State, Wafer was originally selected in the second round (39th pick overall) by the L.A. Lakers in the 2005 NBA Draft. During 38 career games with the Lakers, Clippers and Nuggets, he averaged 1.2 points, 0.5 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 4.3 minutes.
Wafer will wear No. 24 with the Trail Blazers.
“We want to thank Taurean Green and wish him all the best for the future, which I think will be a bright one in this league,” said Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard. “We had a positional need to fill with some of the injuries we’re having to endure and with Von Wafer we think we’re getting a player who can provide us with some offensive firepower.”
Green, 6-0, 177, has appeared in eight games for the Blazers this season, averaging 2.1 ppg and 1.0 apg. He saw action in four games for the Idaho Stampede of the D-League, averaging 19.3 ppg, 9.8 apg and 5.3 rpg.
The rookie point guard was the 52nd overall pick of the 2007 NBA Draft after his junior season at the University of Florida, where he was a member of Gators’ back-to-back National Championship teams.
