| Sept. 22, 2006

Dajuan WagnerThe Golden State Warriors have signed free agent guard Dajuan Wagner, it was announced today by Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced. InsideHoops.com hears it's a two-year deal, with the second year a team option. So, Wagner has one season to prove his value. He'll make around $750,000 in 2006-07.

Wagner, 23, was originally selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round (sixth overall) in the 2002 NBA Draft. He appeared in 47 games during his rookie campaign with the Cavaliers, averaging 13.4 points and 2.8 assists in 29.5 minutes. He ranked fourth among all rookies in scoring and assists in 2002-03, highlighted by a career-high 33-point outing against the Toronto Raptors on December 11, 2002. During one seven-game stretch in November/December (11/29/02 - 12/11/02), he averaged 24.1 points and 5.3 assists. Additionally, he was named a member of the Eastern Conference squad in the 2003 Schick Rookie All-Star Game. Overall, Wagner appeared in 102 games over a three-year stretch with Cleveland (2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05), averaging 9.4 points and 1.9 assists. He did not play in the NBA last season.

Prior to entering the NBA, the 6'2" guard played one season at Memphis (2001-02), where he earned Conference USA Player of the Year honors after establishing a single-season school record for points (762). His father, Milt, was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers 1988 NBA Championship team.

InsideHoops.com Editor Says: Wagner is a scoring guard in a point guard's body. A poor man's Allen Iverson. I'm rooting for the kid, since his NBA career was temporarily put on hold due to a variety of surprising health issues.
