The New Jersey Nets have declined to exercise the fourth-year option on the contract of guard/forward Antoine Wright, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today. Wright will remain under contract with the Nets through the 2007-08 season, after which time he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
“We are looking to have financial flexibility at the conclusion of the season,” said Thorn. “Antoine has worked very hard to become a rotation player, and we expect him to be a solid contributor during the upcoming season.”
Wright, a 6-7 guard/forward out of Texas A&M, was the first round selection (15th overall) of the Nets in the 2005 NBA Draft. In his first two seasons, Wright has played in 102 games, averaging 3.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
