Big Apple Basketball Challenge

The 4th Annual Big Apple Basketball Challenge game, featuring several top NYC Catholic League teams playing against NYC basketball Public League teams, will take place Saturday, December 8 and Sunday, December 9 at Baruch College in Manhattan, New York. The entrance is at the Northeast corner of East 24th street and Lexington Avenue.
Here's the results record from the first three Big Apple Basketball Challenge events: Catholic League teams 21 wins, Public League teams 9 wins.
Here's what the organizers have to say: The Big Apple Basketball Challenge is a two day basketball event to showcase the top high school public league and catholic league teams. The BAB Challenge is designed to show the supremacy of New York City’s catholic or public leagues on the basketball court. The games are played at a very high level with bragging rights at stake. The 2007 BAB Challenge features 16 of the top New York City boys’ catholic and public high school teams.

2004 BIG APPLE BASKETBALL CHALLENGE
The CHSAA (Catholic High School Athletic Association) defeated the PSAL (Public School Athletic League) 7-3 in the 1st Annual Big Apple Basketball Catholic League vs. Public League Challenge, the two New York City high school basketball leagues.
On Saturday, at Pace University the PSAL got off to a great start winning three of the first four games. Manhattan Center (PSAL-Manhattan) edged Nazareth
(CHSAA-Brooklyn), 63-58; FDA (PSAL-Manhattan) beat Fordham Prep, 55-28; Farrell (CHSAA-Staten Island) got by Columbus (PSAL-Bronx), 62-51 and Banneker
(PSAL-Brooklyn) held on for a 58-57 win over CHSAA-Brooklyn rival Loughlin.
The CHSAA dominated the rest of the way. Beginning with the nightcap on Saturday, Christ the King (CHSAA-Queens) defeated Grady, 78-61.
On Sunday at Baruch College, Bishop Ford (CHSAA-Brooklyn) was a 51-44 winner over McKinney (PSAL-Brooklyn), Holy Cross (CHSAA-Queens) beat Boys and Girls (PSAL-Brooklyn), 83-44; All Hallows (PSAL-Bronx) defeated Wings, 66-52; Molloy (CHSAA-Queens) got by Bryant (PSAL-Queens), 70-44 and in the marquee matchup of the day, Rice (CHSAA-Queens) beat Cardozo (PSAL-Queens), 66-39.
Faces in the crowd included former NYC prep stars and NBA players, Rod Strickland and Ed Pinckney (assistant coach-Villanova), University of Pittsburgh Head Coach, Jamie Dixon, several assistant coaches from schools such as, St. John's, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Fordham, Rhode Island, Marist, Drexel and Central Connecticut State, along with a plethora of Division II and Division III coaches.
