WOODEN GAME OF THE WEEK: Arizona vs. Texas
In their first true test of the season, the Longhorns will tackle a seven-year
losing streak to Arizona in the nightcap of the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square
Garden. Coming off an incredible season in which Texas went to the Final Four
for the first time since 1947, Texas is out to prove itself as one of college
basketball’s perennial powers. Having lost star point guard and last year’s Wooden
Award winner T.J. Ford to the NBA, Texas will rely on Wooden Award candidates
Brandon Mouton and James Thomas to atone for Ford’s absence. They will face off
against Arizona’s Wooden Award Candidates Channing Frye and Salim Stoudamire,
who had a team-high 14 points in last year's 73-70 win in Tucson. Texas comes
into the match undefeated, while Arizona has a 2-1 record after suffering a close
78-77 loss to top-ranked Florida. The game will be televised nationally on Tuesday,
December 9 on ESPN at 9 pm EST – be sure to catch it!
